Today I am thankful that my mom always answers her phone when I call.

I called my mom three times today. Two of those calls were because I needed her to talk me through making vegetable soup. Then, I called her tonight on my way home from church. And I called her yesterday. And Wednesday. And the other day driving to work. And … and … and.

For those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting my mom, you can attest to the fact that she’s awesome. She’s kind and loving and helpful and nurturing and faith-filled and on and on and on. She’s the woman I look up to the most and the epitome of who I want to become.

Sometimes I call my mom for advice. Sometimes I call to just catch up and chat. Sometimes I have a specific question. Sometimes I need a pep talk. Sometimes I want to see how she’s doing. Sometimes I call just to say hello and let her know I’m alive. Sometimes I call to see if Santa is done shopping for Christmas or if he’s still taking wish-list suggestions. Sometimes I call just to hear her voice and ground myself in the stability that only my mother can bring. And she always, always answers.

God sure knew what he was doing when he chose my mother. I’m proud to be her kid, and blessed beyond measure to have her as my mom.
