I spotted it Monday morning while out on the playground. Everyone spotted it. It was impossible to miss. There it was, across the street from our Kindergarten playground, a giant inflatable snowman just standing there waving at us.

I have no idea who lives in this house across the street, which, by the way, I will now and forevermore refer to as the snowman house. Perhaps it’s a family with young kids who begged their parents for the biggest snowman they could find. Or perhaps there are teenagers in the household who are slightly embarrassed by the humongous snow creature welcoming their friends when they come over. In my mind, though, a retired couple lives in the snowman house and their choice of holiday décor was motivated exclusively by the Kindergarten playground across the street and the desire to put smiles on the faces of a whole bunch of 5 and 6 year-olds.

If this was the case, they succeeded.

They also succeeded in putting a smile on my face. Seriously, this snowman makes me happy. Every time I look at it, I get a little dose of holiday cheer. I love the ridiculousness of its size. I love how he waves to us each time we come out to recess, greeting us with his jolly happy soul. And mostly, I love that whoever lives in the snowman house went big (very, very big) in their commitment of spreading holiday joy.
