Today I’m grateful for a kind couple in a parking lot.

My aunt and I ventured out to a craft fair this morning for a little Black Friday shopping. When we arrived to the high school where the craft fair was being held, the parking lot was full. My aunt was driving, and I was riding shotgun. As she drove up and down the aisles looking for a spot, I tried to scan the rows to the left and right in hopes of spying an open parking space. No luck.

As we headed back up an aisle toward the entrance, we saw a man and woman who were walking out of the craft fair. They saw us and promptly motioned toward the area where their car was parked. As they walked to their car, we looped around and met them there. As they pulled out, we pulled in.

That couple’s action wasn’t a huge one. It didn’t take them any extra time, didn’t cost them a penny, and involved relatively little extra effort. They just noticed us and pointed. That’s all. But that little action and their little bit of thoughtfulness saved us a little time and potentially a little frustration.

Thanks, random parking lot couple, for helping us find a spot. And thanks, too, for the reminder that even the littlest actions and smallest bits of helpfulness can contribute to someone else in a positive way. I’m thankful to have been that ‘someone else’ today, and I pray I remember this the next time I notice a ‘someone else’ who could benefit from a small bit of kindness in their day.
