Today I’m grateful for a little Christmas … right this very minute.

As I do many days, I woke up with a song in my head this morning. Today’s earworm was “We Need a Little Christmas.” The lyrics felt urgent. So much so that before 6:30 a.m. I’d already texted a friend to set a date for some Christmas movie fun. I had to work pretty hard to convince myself to get up, get dressed, and go to work rather than stay home and bake Christmas cookies all day. And, before I'd even set my feet on the ground this morning I’d decided that today was the day I’d be decking my halls.

By the time I got home from work today I was pretty tired. Then, after making dinner and cleaning up, the tiredness turned to exhaustion. I was tempted to abandon my Christmas decorating plans and trade them in for the mere visions of sugarplums dancing through my sleepy head instead.

But I pushed through. Kind of. I brought the Christmas bins in from the garage. I stared at them for quite a while. Then I scrolled mindlessly on Instagram for a bit. And then, finally, I put up my living room tree.

I’ll eventually put up a couple more trees. And eventually I’ll decorate them. And I’ll put up my nativity scenes and my Advent wreath and my garland and my outdoor lights and all the merry things. I go big for Christmas.

But for tonight, the one undecorated tree and the stack of Christmas tubs will do. They make me happy. It's enough for right now ... just a little Christmas, right this very minute.
