Today I’m grateful for an evening fueled by Door Dashed coffee and a whole lotta whipped cream.

Tonight was Western Roundup at my school. Picture carnival games and bounce houses, food trucks and music, all with a Wild West theme. It’s super fun for the kids. My class has been looking forward to it for quite some time. Their excitement (and subsequently, their energy) has been building all week. Unfortunately, my energy was dwindling in inverse proportion to theirs. While it’s true that elementary school events don’t typically go past 8 p.m., it’s also true that most Friday nights I’m pretty much dead to the world by 6 p.m.

My Kindergarten teammates and I were joking during Thursday afternoon recess that we might need a little extra dose of caffeine after school on Friday in order to rally for Western Roundup that night. By lunchtime today there was no doubt that a caffeine-induced second wind was our only option. Was school coffee going to suffice? Absolutely not. Was a coffee run possible? Nope. No one dared leave school for fear of losing their parking spot and having to park down the block upon return. Was an over-priced Door Dash delivery from Starbucks necessary? 100% yes.

Best dang cup of coffee I’ve ever had.

It was a fun night. The kids and their families had a blast. And just as I’d hoped, the coffee provided me enough staying power to make it to my volunteer shift in the ‘Pie Your Teacher in the Face’ booth where the whipped cream sugar-high then took over. Turns out a little whipped cream up your nose is a pretty effective energy boost as well.

So here’s to a fun night with my school community. And cheers to the coffee and whipped cream that made it all possible!
