I know, I know. It’s technically not winter yet, but my car thermometer this morning would beg to differ. I left the house super early this morning, and my car told me it was 40 degrees outside. Now unfortunately, I failed to check the temperature before I left my house and slipped on a pair of wedge sandals to wear. I did have long sleeves, but I didn’t grab a jacket. Thankfully I always keep a sweatshirt and a sweater at school, so I was good to go. I did regret the sandal choice early this morning on the playground, but I just told myself I was practicing for Iowa next week and I toughened right up.

By mid-morning recess it was in the high 50s and by lunchtime it was mid-60s. I’d shed my sweater by then and was soaking up the glorious weather.

We Phoenicians live for days like this – a little chilly in the morning and evening and positively perfect during the day. It was the kind of day where you stay on the playground for a few extra minutes of recess because you just can’t bear to go inside. I figure we’re making up for all those heat advisory days in August and September when we could only be outside for a few minutes.

I’ve been sitting at my dining room table all evening, prepping for tomorrow’s night class, with my cozy pajamas on and the coolish air coming in from the open patio door. I just got up to close it a few minutes ago as it’s now dipping into the 40s again.

Man, I love me some Arizona winter!
