Today I'm thankful for a happy school day.

I have a little girl in my Kindergarten class who, every single day, greets me with “Happy School Day, Ms. Wiebel!” It’s very cute. I think it started because I sometimes say Happy Wednesday (or insert appropriate day here) to the kids. She wanted to do the same, but keeping track of what day it is can be kind of tough when you’re 5 years old. Now, I look forward to her sweet, bubbly, and very sincere greeting each morning.
Today was a happy school day. One of the many things that I love about being a teacher is the necessity to compartmentalize my own worries/concerns or the world’s problems and just be present with kids for a big chunk of the day. Sometimes it’s hard to turn the world off, but today I welcomed the opportunity not to think about politics and election returns for a few hours and just have a happy school day with my Kindergarten darlings.
