Today I’m thankful for an apple cider mimosa to start the day and an apple cider mimosa to end the day.

Aunt Diane and I have the best tradition on Thanksgiving morning. We watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade while drinking apple cider mimosas in our pajamas. The pajamas are essential in this tradition, so I drove over to her house this morning in my jammies and slippers. This year I donned my homemade turkey hat for an extra bit of whimsy. We watched the parade and chatted while other members of her household watched football pregame shows or slept. We’ve done this for the past several years, and I was definitely looking forward to it this morning. Also essential to the tradition are apple cider mimosas. If you haven’t had one, you’re definitely missing out. They put regular mimosas to shame.

Today after the parade I came home and cooked. I was in charge of green bean casserole and mashed potatoes. Once both were prepped, I took a short siesta, put on some real clothes, and then headed back over to Diane’s for dinner.
Tonight’s dinner was perfect. Delicious food. Precious time with my Arizona family. Lots of laughs and a full belly. It was pretty much everything you’d hope for in a Thanksgiving.
I was the last one to leave tonight. The evening ended with Diane and I back on the couch, chatting over a second round of apple cider mimosas. It was the perfect way to bookend a great Thanksgiving day.
So tonight as I type this with a full stomach and a fridge full of leftovers; as I’m fighting off my tryptophan-induced stupor; I’m thankful for a wonderful day, my loving Arizona family, and a treasured tradition of apple cider mimosas.
