Today I’m thankful for laughter within the walls of my home.

Is it just me or is life seeming pretty heavy these days? Actually, I know it’s not just me. The world is kind of a weird place right now. There are probably a million and two reasons why this is so, and I’m certainly not going to break that open here on my Facebook page. What I will say here, though, is that amidst all the craziness, I’ve really been craving a good ol’ belly laugh lately.

Now, I actually laugh quite a bit. I can find humor in a lot of things. It’s one of the things I like most about myself. But, I’ve been craving a big kind of laughter lately … the laugh-til-it-hurts kind of laugh; the can’t-catch-my-breath kind of laugh; the fall-out-of-my-chair kind of laugh. I’ve been wanting that moment when you are with people you love and you laugh so hard that you can’t quite get words out. The kind of laughter that warms your heart and when you randomly think about it hours later, you can’t help but laugh again. Recently I was sharing with some friends that I really wanted to host a game night because it had been far too long since my walls had been filled with that kind of laughter.
Fast forward to today, and my home has been blessed to be filled with belly-laugh laughter not once, but twice this week. On Saturday night I hosted that game night I’d been wishing for. At one point in the night while playing the game Throw, Throw Burrito I literally fell out of my chair laughing hysterically (and also diving to dodge a flying burrito toy). I swear, there wasn’t even much alcohol involved. And, I’ve been laughing on and off for several days now thinking about a silly pun joke that was told that evening.
Then tonight, I hosted my prayer group at my house, and we sat around my backyard fire pit sharing about what was going on in our respective lives. Our conversation was both heavy and light, but there were fits of laughter mixed in that made my heart so, so, so incredibly happy.
So tonight, as I reflect on my day, I am doing so with a joyful spirit and a smile on my face, thankful for the gift of laughter and for the wonderful friends with whom I’ve been blessed to share it.
