Today I’m thankful for my ordinary day.

As I was sitting on my couch just now, reflecting back on my day, I was having a hard time deciding what to write about. Nothing big or special happened today. There weren’t any huge note-worthy moments. Today was actually a pretty uneventful day. I was busy, but busy with normal things. Nothing out of the ordinary. I was due for a day like this, and honestly, it was really nice.
My struggle for tonight’s gratitude topic wasn’t due to a lack of gratitude though. In fact, quite the opposite. Today was full of lots of little blessings, dispersed throughout the day, and I was having trouble narrowing it down to one. But who says I have to?
Here are a few highlights from my day:

the barista who asked me how my morning was going when I stopped for coffee on my way to work
the welcome back butterfly kiss from my Kindergarteners this morning during our morning meeting (We have a butterfly puppet who helps welcome students back after being absent, and the kids were insistent that the butterfly welcome me back today as well, since I hadn’t been at school on Friday.)
my teammate locking up the Kindergarten gate after school, even though it was my day to do so
10 minutes of quiet just sitting in my car in my school’s parking lot after school, catching up on texts from the day
pineapples on sale for 97 cents at Fry’s
the Costco employee who went and found me a cart when I realized I had more items than I could carry
Barkley’s wagging tail and excited jumps that greeted me when I came through the kitchen door
a warm fuzzy blanket to snuggle up in for a quick post-grocery shopping nap
easy-to-cut straight-edged laminated art projects that I can mindlessly cut out while watching TV
my DVR’d recording of “A Million Little Things” that I missed last week
Today I’m thankful for the reminder to myself to celebrate the ordinary days and appreciate all the little blessings they contain.
